I'm an the Technology and Innovation Coordinator in the Elementary division of the Singapore American School. I am responsible for leading the division's Technology team, overseeing a transition from 'EdTech' to 'Innovation'. Right now, this means partnering with teachers to develop inter-disciplinary and personalised learning opportunities for all students, and to provide STEM pathways that are available to all. Our focus is on student learning and the empowerment of all learners. This has been signalled by a shift from technology teaching, to learning design. A shift from screens, to design. A shift from the front of the classroom, to small groups and individuals.
I was previously the Director of Technology at Korea International School (Seoul and Pangyo campuses), leading the introduction of the school's first full-time team of Technology Integration Specialists. During this time, I introduced the school's 1:1 iPad program for our grade 3-5 students, and worked with my team to implement 'The Fish Bowl', a comprehensive technology focussed professional learning program that was internationally recognised, land focus of international education conference presentations.
My focus in leadership is on learning and creating a culture of learning. My philosophy on learning is centred on social-constructivist principles, where students understand explicitly the purpose of their learning, and develop reflective practices that encourage ownership for their learning. Throughout my career in education I have witnessed the most successful outcomes arising from circumstances in which students feel supported, where the learning is scaffolded and relevant, and where it is experienced and personal.
